Our Story
Home Away From Home
Founded in the summer of 2016 in Downtown Manhattan, Bessou began as a cozy neighborhood restaurant in Noho, dedicated to offering creative Japanese home cooking. Our vision was to create a place reminiscent of a holiday villa where "everyone knew your name", and we quickly became a local favorite.
Post-pandemic, like many businesses in NYC, we were faced with the difficult decision to close the restaurant after a significant rent hike. Embracing the ever-changing landscape of New York City, we adapted by extending our offerings beyond dining. Today, Bessou continues to celebrate Japanese flavors through our takeaway shop at Pier 57 and through retail snacks, including the newly launched Pom Pom Popcorn, and our Japanese pantry line featuring our “life changing” furikake.
With over 8 years in business, we remain a true NYC company, ever-evolving and continuing to dream big. We continue to share our love of Japanese flavors with the world in new and exciting ways.
Critically acclaimed by the New York Times, NY Magazine, and Time Out, Bessou grew into a beloved gem where friendships flourished and seats were always filled.
